Name, Image and Likeness (NIL)
What is NIL?
The NIL (name, image, likeness) policy in college sports allows student-athletes to profit from their personal brand. This means they can earn money through endorsements, sponsorships and other ventures without losing their college eligibility. Introduced in 2021, NIL rights mark a significant shift in the landscape of collegiate athletics, empowering athletes with new financial opportunities.
The new era of NIL at ASU
Times have changed in collegiate athletics, and ASU is excited to be a leader for our student-athletes. NIL is a new way that all of our ASU Sun Devil student-athletes can build a legacy on and off the field by earning compensation for using their likeness to do everything from sending a birthday shoutout, to signing a personalized autograph, to promoting your local business.
We’re creating multiple ways that the Sun Devil nation can activate and ignite one of a kind partner. It is through deliberate and thoughtful partnerships with our community and alumni network that student-athletes can leverage and ignite NIL opportunities to promote personal growth, financial security and begin preparing for life after college athletics.

The Sun Angel Collective was created specifically to work with ASU student-athletes to help raise funds and create opportunities for them to make the most of their name, image and likeness. The collective is a stand-alone organization that believes the new era of NIL will allow student-athletes to use their time and talent to help our community while also providing them experience and mentorship to become our next generation of leaders.
