Kappa Kappa Psi
Kappa Kappa Psi is a National Honorary Band Fraternity founded on the campus of Oklahoma A&M College in 1919. Over 66,000 students have dedicated themselves to strengthening their bands through individual and group service projects. The chief aim of Kappa Kappa Psi is to assist the director of bands in developing the leadership and enthusiasm within the band while organizing service activities for the band and providing our membership with organization, leadership and social contacts.
The Beta Omicron chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Arizona State University was founded in 1949. Since then, it has served the Sun Devil bands while being recognized as one of the top chapters in the nation. It has won numerous Western District and national awards, including the prestigious William A. Scroggs Founder's Trophy. Located on a campus with a nationally ranked School of Music and within a community that embraces the arts, our organization has had the opportunity to be actively engaged in the Phoenix metropolitan community.
We have worked with several professional organizations such as The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, Arizona Music Education Association, Winter Guard Arizona, The Phoenix Symphony, Music Teachers National Association and Mesa Community College as well as cultivated local relationships by sponsoring several local high schools in our "Adopt-a-Band" teaching program, helping to organize and run ASU Band Day, maintaining an active recruitment schedule for the Sun Devil Marching Band, and assisting with the behind-the-scenes work that allows the ASU Bands to run smoothly.
Our chapter is dedicated to a purpose-driven attitude upon which our fraternity was founded. The purposes of Kappa Kappa Psi are:
- To promote the existence and welfare of the college and university bands and to cultivate a wholesome respect for their activities and achievements
- To honor outstanding band members through privilege of membership exband directortended as a reward for technical achievement and appreciation for the best in music
- To stimulate campus leadership and promulgate an uncompromising respect through the medium of the college band for gracious conduct, good taste and unswerving loyalty
- To foster a close relationship between college bands and promote a high average of attainment by performing good music and selecting worthwhile projects
- To provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all engaged in college band work and to cooperate with other musical organizations in any manner consistent with the purposes of the institution where chapters are located
Kappa Kappa Psi at Arizona State fosters an environment that welcomes all band members interested in improving the band, ASU, and the community while enjoying a close-knit bond with some of the nation's most talented performers.
