The Sun Devil women's basketball team (8-15, 2-9 Big 12) plays the first of consecutive road games at Arizona (14-10, 5-6) on Saturday (2 p.m. MST).
The second of ASU's back-to-back road games will take place on Wednesday (5 p.m. MST) when it plays at UCF. For ASU, it will be the second time this season it will cross two times zones for a competition. In December, ASU traveled to the DMV for games at Coppin State and vs. Maryland Eastern Shore (game was played in Baltimore).
Prior to its game vs. BYU (last Saturday), ASU came off a stretch in which it faced three ranked teams in four games: at No. 11 Kansas State (Jan. 19), vs. No. 16 West Virginia (Jan. 22) and at No. 24 Oklahoma State (Jan. 29).

• The Sun Devils have won 30 of the last 43 encounters, however Arizona has had recent success with victories in nine of the last 12 contests including the last five meetings.
• Jalyn Brown paced ASU (15.5 ppg) in its two losses to Arizona last season. Tyi Skinner, who missed last season due to injury, averaged 17.0 points in two games vs. Arizona in 2022-23.

NOTES FROM LAST GAME – BYU 77, @ASU 67 / FEB. 1, 2025
• Being on the wrong end of a 20-6 run to start the second half proved to be the difference in the Sun Devil women's basketball team's 77-67 loss to BYU last Saturday.
• Nevaeh Parkinson (17 points), Jalyn Brown and Tyi Skinner (13 points each) were the primary sources of scoring for the Sun Devils.
• Skinner, Brown, Jazion Jackson and Makayla Moore tied for the team lead in rebounds with six. After tying her career high with five assists in ASU's game at No. 24 Oklahoma State (Jan. 29), Brown established a new career best with six on vs. BYU. Jackson (four) and Skinner (three) combined for seven of ASU's 10 steals and Moore provided ASU with seven bench points.
• Nearly a third of ASU's points came from the foul line where the Sun Devils continued to display their remarkable accuracy connecting on 84 percent (21-25) of their attempts.
• ASU's plus-13 advantage (21-8) in points at the charity stripe was offset by BYU's 3-point shooting where the Cougars were plus-21 in points (27-7). Although BYU had more misses (16) from behind the arc than ASU had attempts (11), the numbers still ended up favoring the Cougars due to them almost doubling up the Sun Devils in 3-point FG percentage (36.0-18.2).
• Although it seemed unlikely in the moment, the score at the half (34-31 BYU) was the last time the contest was a one-possession game. A 20-6 BYU run to start the second half gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game, 54-37.
• As has been the case all season when faced with a big deficit, the Sun Devils fought until the very end. Parkinson, who scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half, got ASU as close as eight with 7:24 remaining.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
• ASU enters Saturday's game in 14th place in the Big 12 standings, three games behind Arizona (currently tied for ninth). It still has a chance to make up ground as six of its last seven games are against teams currently ahead of them in the standings.
• Jalyn Brown (10x) and Tyi Skinner (9x) have combined to lead/tie for the team lead in scoring 19x this season. Brown has led ASU in scoring in 5x in last eight games. Also among the single-game scoring leaders have been Nevaeh Parkinson (3x), Jyah LoVett (1x) and Kennedy Fauntleroy (1x).
• Skinner (20/23 games) and Brown (16/20 games) have combined to score in double figures 36x. The duo has also teamed up to score 20 or more points 15x: Brown 9x and Skinner 6x. Seven of Brown's nine 20-point games have come in her last 11 games. Her season-high 32 points at K-State (Jan. 19) represents the highest single-game total by a Sun Devil this season. Skinner scored a career-high 30 points in ASU's season opening win over Jacksonville St (Nov. 4).
• Skinner (55 3-pointers this season) needs two 3-pointers to move into a tie for 10th place (Amanda Levens/2001-02) for most 3-pointers in a season. In her first season in Tempe in 2022-23, Skinner tied Courtney Ekmark (2018-19) for No. 2 on the list with 68. Katie Hempenset the current record with 76 in 2014-15. Skinner is also No. 9 in career 3-pointers (123).
• Jyah LoVett, who was not available for ASU's game at No. 24 Oklahoma State (Jan. 29), has scored in double figures 12x this season. Last month she had a streak snapped in which she scored in double figures in six straight games (averaged 14.7 points and connected on 54.5 percent of her shots during that stretch). Eight of LoVett's double-figure scoring games have come in her last 12 games.
• Kennedy Basham has had multiple blocks 14x this season, including a career-high seven rejections at San Francisco (Dec. 17). She's also had six blocks 2x, most recently at Oklahoma St. (Jan. 29). Currently with 57 blocks, Basham is No. 2 on ASU's list for most blocks in a season. Kali Bennett tops the list with 91 rejections in 2011-12.
DYNAMIC DUO DEBUT
The 2023-24 Sun Devils were dealt a serious blow when it was announced before the season that superstar guard Tyi Skinner would miss the entire season due to a knee injury.
Skinner, who played her first two seasons at Delaware, joined Natasha Adair in Tempe after Adair was named ASU's head coach. In 2022-23, Skinner (2023 All-Pac-12 honorable mention) scored 20 or more points 15 times, including 29 points twice. A starter in all 28 games, Skinner averaged 19.3 ppg, (most by a Sun Devil since the 1988-89 ). She concluded her first campaign as a Sun Devil among the leaders in the Pac-12 in points per game (19.3/2nd/27th in the nation), 3-pointers per game (2.43 per game/2nd), minutes per game (36.59/3rd/29th in the nation), FTs made (79/3rd) and attempted (91/4th), steals per game (1.71/5th), 3-point FG pct (34.7/6th) and FT percentage (78.1/8th).
The 2023-24 Sun Devils were left pondering, 'what might have been,' had Skinner been able to share the court with Louisville transfer Jalyn Brown. Much like Skinner in 2022-23, Brown emerged as one of the top performers in the Pac-12 in 2023-24. In league games, Brown finished 3rd in the Pac-12 in scoring (19.6 ppg), 9th in FT percent (80.6) and tied for 14th in 3-pointers per game (1.56). She scored in double figures 26x (12 20-point games) including the two highest-scoring games by a Sun Devil since 2000: 35 vs. Colorado (Jan. 7, 2024) and 34 points at Washington (Jan. 21).
Brown, who earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors from the league's coaches and All-Pac-12 recognition from media who cover the league, went on to lead the team in scoring (17.3 ppg) and 3-pointers per game (1.4), was 2nd in FT pct. (76.9), 3-pointers (1.3 per game), minutes (35.54 mpg) and FTs made (103) and attempted (134), 3rd in assists (1.6 apg), tied for 3rd in steals (0.9 spg) and 4th in O-rebounds (1.1 rpg).
In her first game since the end of the 2022-23 season, Skinner scored a career-high 30 points – at the time the 17th instance she scored 20 or more points in a Sun Devil uniform – in ASU's 74-66 win over Jacksonville State (Nov. 4). Brown led ASU in scoring (24 points) vs. Arkansas State (Nov. 8). Combined with Skinner's 16 points, the duo combined for 40 points in the game.
In ASU's 80-73 win over SMU (Nov. 16), Skinner (26 points) and Brown (25 points) combined for 51 points. In addition both Skinner (8-16 FGs, 5-10 3FGs) and Brown (10-18 FGs, 3-7 3FGs) were efficient with their opportunities as they teamed up to shoot 53 percent (18-34 FGs) from the field, including 47 percent (8-17) from long range.
Skinner (20/23 games) and Brown (16/20 games) have combined to score in double figures 36x. The two have also combined to score 20 or more points 15x: Brown 9x and Skinner 6x. WHAT IFS AND MIGHT HAVE BEENS
The Sun Devils, who have eight new players on this season's roster, have experienced the ups and downs that can sometimes go with combining the talents of several outstanding players who have not had a lot of time to gel. That factor alone could account for ASU's current 8-15 record. With several near misses, ASU is much closer to being in the top half of the Big 12 than its current record indicates.
• Against Arkansas State, ASU trailed by 13 with 6:15 remaining. After a 19-5 run, ASU was up by one with 1:01 remaining. Arkansas State scored the last five points of the game to claim the win.
• After going into the half with a 42-33 win vs. Grand Canyon, the Sun Devils were outscored 37-17 in the second half.
• At Coppin State, ASU was unable to score in the final 53 seconds to break a 61-61 tie. The Eagles would go on to win in OT.
• Despite a stout defensive effort and a plus-12 advantage on the boards, the Sun Devils came up on the short end of a 57-50 decision at UC Davis. For the second straight game the Sun Devils held the opposition to the fewest points they had given up this season and allowed the Aggies to shoot only 37 pct. ASU made only 28 pct of its shots and knocked down one of its 14 attempts from long range. Down by eight entering the fourth quarter, ASU got within one possession three times late in the game but did not come away with points in each instance. After Maggie Besselink's earlier field goal got ASU within two, the Sun Devils were only able to connect on three of their 14 shot attempts in the final five minutes of the game.
• At San Francisco, ASU was unable to take advantage of a 27-point performance from Skinner and a career-high and a tremendous all-around performance from Basham, who had 12 points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven blocks. The difference in the game was at the FT line where the Dons had more than 3x as many attempts (29-35) as ASU (9-11). Still, ASU was tied at 57-57 with 1:09 remaining. After the Dons took a six-point lead, Skinner hit two triples and missed a third that would have sent the game to OT.
• ASU came up short in what would have been the biggest comeback in program history in a 90-83 loss to Iowa St. (Jan. 8). Down by as many as 20, ASU was within three points with 13 seconds remaining. A win would have eclipsed the biggest comeback in program history: 18 points vs. Utah on Feb. 17, 2019, a game in which ASU scored the last 20 points of the game to edge Utah 60-58.
• At then-No. 11 Kansas State (Jan. 19), ASU trailed by two after one quarter, by six at the half and were able get back within seven three times in the fourth quarter after falling behind by as many as 17.
• Led Cincinnati (Jan. 25) by nine points in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for ASU, a 23-7 Cincinnati down the stretch prevented the Sun Devils from coming away with the win.

In those three games – also vs. Arkansas State (80 percent/8-10/18 points) and vs. South Dakota (92 percent/12-13/career-high 26 points) – Parker has connected on 87 percent of her shots (26/30) and averaged 19.3 points.
