TEMPE - Sun Devil Water Polo announced its 2025 competition schedule this morning, which features two home tournaments and three away tournaments. The team will face familiar foes throughout the year, including a tilt against 2024 NCAA National Champions UCLA in February and competing in the best water polo conference in the country.
The schedule boasts 13 home matches, the same number as last year. The remaining matches are held on the road or at neutral site locations in California and Hawaii. This is the program's first trip to Hawaii to compete in the Hawaii Tournament since 2019.
Similar to 2024, the Sun Devils kick off their season by hosting the ASU Invitational, one of their two home tournaments. The Invitational takes place on January 18-19, featuring Cal Lutheran, SDSU, UC Davis, California Baptist, and the New York Athletic Club. On January 18, the Maroon and Gold face off against Cal Lutheran and SDSU and then the following day will compete against UC Davis, California Baptist, and the New York Athletic Club. Last season, the Sun Devils defeated Cal Lutheran 26-2 in their first meeting since 2009. The most recent matchups from SDSU, UC Davis, and Cal Baptist have all been wins for the Sun Devils. This is also the first time that ASU and the New York Athletic Club are meeting in program history.
The Sun Devils are put to the test as they travel on the road Jan. 25-26 to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete in the University of Hawaii Tournament. A week later, the team heads to California to compete in the Triton Invitational.
After a two week stretch on the road, the Maroon and Gold return home for a match versus 2024 National Champions UCLA on Feb. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
The Cross Conference Invitational, the second tournament that ASU hosts, takes place on Feb. 15-16 featuring Cal State Fullerton, Salem, Iona, and LIU. On February 15, the team faces off against Salem at 10:00 a.m. and LIU at 1:45 p.m. On Sunday, the Sun Devils compete against Cal State Fullerton at 9:00 a.m. and Iona at 11:30 a.m.
The Maroon and Gold hit the road again as they head to the Barbara Kalbus Invitational on February 21-23. Following the Invitational, a two week break results in three home matches to close out March against Stanford, Indiana, and San Jose State.
Matches on the road against Cal and USC take the team through the middle of April before closing out the regular season in California for the MPSF Conference Tournament on April 25-27.
All home games have free admission and times/locations for games are to be announced. Follow along on Twitter @sundevilwp and Instagram @sundevilwaterpolo for all the news and updates ahead of the 2025 season.
