Swimming Garners Four Big 12 Weekly Awards

TEMPE – Following their first week of competition in the calendar year, No. 3/14 Sun Devil Swim and Dive garnered four Big 12 weekly swim and dive awards announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.

Breaststroker Andy Dobrzanski earns his first career weekly honor after sweeping the breaststroke events against Grand Canyon, winning the 100 breast in 52.92 and the 200 breast in 1:55.30. He swam a 43.97 100 freestyle second leg in the 400 free relay, and a 23.48 50 breast leg in the 200 medley relay that was second.

Olympian Tolu Young garnered his second weekly honor this year by winning the 50 free and being the only swimmer to finish in under 20 seconds with a time of 19.90. He also won the 100 fly (47.62) against GCU. In the 200 medley relay he also swam a 19.45 50 fly leg, which his relay team placed second.

Graduate Caroline Bentz wins her sixth Big 12 weekly honor after winning the 50 free (22.31) and the 200 back (1:53.23) against Rice last Friday. Then followed up her performance with wins in the 100 free (48.73) and the 200 free (1:47.71). She also was part of the 200 medley relay that broke the school record by swimming a 21.47 50 free leg.

Against GCU, she was part of the winning 200 medley relay swimming a 24.63 50 back starting leg, and part of the winning 400 free relay and swam a 49.13 relay.

Butterfly specialist Julia Ullmann wins her second Big 12 weekly honor of the season after winning the 200 fly and was the only swimmer under two minutes, finishing in 1:59.82. She placed second in the 100 free (50.44) with Bentz winning the race. She won the 100 fly (52.86) and was runner-up in the 50 free (22.87) against Rice.
