FEDERAL WAY, Wash.  — Sun Devil senior Patrick Sammon was awarded the Elite 90 at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships Thursday evening, presented annually by the NCAA to the student-athlete at each sport's championship site with the highest cumulative GPA.

The NCAA Elite 90 award recognizes student-athletes' achievements, celebrating outstanding individuals who showcase their athletic skills and academic excellence.

Sammon boasts a 4.0 GPA and will graduate with a degree in business finance and has been a key contributor to the rise of the program, being one of the country's best sprinters. The four-year Sun Devil won a national title in the 400 free relay in 2024 and helped the team win its first national championship in program history as a junior. He became a six-time All-American last night with a ninth-place finish in the 800 free relay.

The California native is a three-time Big 12 champion in the 800 free relay, 400 free relay and the 200 free, helping the Sun Devils win three-straight conference titles and its first Big 12 championship. Sammon also guided the team to two straight Pac-12 championships in 2023 and 2024 and was a three-time Pac-12 champion in the 800 free relay and the 200 free relay.

The Elite 90 award adds to Sammon's stacked resume after being named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and a CSCAA First-Team Scholar All-American selection as a freshman.

It's the second-straight year a Sun Devil Swimmer has won the Elite 90 award after
Tiago Behar won the honor in 2024. Sammon is the second men's swimmer to earn the recognition and Arizona State's eighth Elite 90 recipient since the inception of the award in 2009. Last year, Lindsay Looney won the Elite 90 award for Women's Swim and Dive.
