Lacrosse Announces 2024 Schedule

By: Connor Smith
TEMPE - Sun Devil Lacrosse has officially released the 2024 schedule as they prepare for their seventh season at the Division I level.
In year two of the Taryn VanThof era, Arizona State boasts one of the toughest schedules in the nation. VanThof and her staff challenged their players by assembling a difficult 11-game non-conference slate in addition to a final seven-game Pac-12 Conference run. With plenty of talent returning and valuable experience gained last season, there is plenty of anticipation for the 2024 Sun Devil Lacrosse season.
Head Coach Taryn VanThof emphasized the opportunity that lies ahead of the team, "With a balanced home and away schedule this season and multiple top-20 opportunities, I'm excited for game days with this group. The strong non-conference schedule prepares us for the final Pac-12 season."

SUN DEVIL STANDOUTS
Arizona State returns several talented pieces and boasts a deep roster in Taryn VanThof's second season. Goalkeeper Katie Vahle, defenders Gigi and Bella Gaspar, attacker Teagan Ng, and midfielders Zoe Mazur and Berit Brookfield are just a few of the many names that earned valuable playing time last season. STRONG SCHEDULE
Arizona State will face one of the nation's most difficult schedules. Five of the U.S. Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Top-20 teams are on the Sun Devils' schedule. ASU's non-conference slate features matchups with No. 4 Denver, No. 10 Stony Brook, No. 12 Florida, and No. 17 Michigan. Two of those teams (Florida & Michigan) make their way to Tempe for a showdown at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium. Although not ranked in the preseason, Vanderbilt, Liberty, Pittsburgh, Xavier, Detroit, and Niagara also present tough matchups for the Maroon & Gold. In addition to the four ranked non-conference opponents, ASU also takes on No. 16 USC in Pac-12 play. Fellow Pac-12 foes Stanford and Colorado have also been receiving plenty of preseason buzz. ASU plays 5 of the 29 teams that made the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
SUN DEVILS ON THE NETWORK
The Pac-12 Network will carry a total of 15 women's lacrosse games across their airwaves in 2024. Arizona State will be featured in four, tied for the second-highest total of any team. You can catch a broadcast of the Sun Devils during the following games (programming subject to change):
3/30 at Stanford (Pac-12 Bay Area)
4/6 vs. Cal (Pac-12 Arizona)
4/12 at Colorado (Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Mountain, Pac-12 Arizona)
4/20 at Oregon (Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Oregon, Pac-12 Arizona)

CONFERENCE EXPANSION
In the final year of the Pac-12 Conference, the league has expanded to eight teams. The addition of UC Davis and San Diego State for the 2024 season was announced in May of 2022. The Aggies and Aztecs will make their debut as affiliate members of the conference. Due to their additions, the Pac-12 Conference schedule was reduced from 10 to 7 games. Instead of all eight program facing off twice in a pair of home games, their will only be one meeting between each team. Arizona State will play seven conference games and ten non-conference games. The 2024 Pac-12 Tournament will also expand to include all eight teams.
Friday, Feb. 9 - 3 PM vs. Xavier (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)
Sun Devil Lacrosse opens their season at home for the second consecutive year when they host Xavier. This will be the first matchup between the two programs, as the Musketeers are only in their third season at the Division I level. It is part of a neutral site event that also includes a Niagara vs. UC Davis on Feb. 9th.
Sunday, Feb. 11 - 9:30 AM vs. Niagara (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)
The second game of the weekend pits Arizona State against Niagara in the first ever meeting between the two programs. It is part of a double-header that also includes a neutral site game of Xavier vs. San Diego State. The Purple Eagles went 12-7 last season, including a 5-3 record in the MAAC.
Thursday, Feb. 15 - 6 PM vs. Pittsburgh (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)
A rare three-game homestand to start the season ends with a showdown with ACC foe Pittsburgh. The Sun Devils and Panthers will meet for the first time, as Pittsburgh is only in their third season at the Division I level. 2022 First Team Pac-12 All-Conference selection attacker Carley Adams, who played for ASU from 2018-22, will return to Tempe as an Assistant Coach with the Panthers.
Friday, Feb. 23 - 9 AM at #10 Stony Brook (Stony Brook, NY/LaValle Stadium)
The first road trip of the season represents a significant test for the Sun Devils. Arizona State will travel to No. 10 Stony Brook, a 2023 NCAA Tournament team. It begins a stretch of three-straight against ranked opposition and traditional powers. This will be the program's second trip to LaValle Stadium, previously taking on No. 5 Stony Brook in 2022. This is one of four U.S. Lacrosse Magazine preseason Top-20 teams on ASU's non-conference schedule.
Tuesday, Feb. 27 - 3 PM vs. #17 Michigan (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)
Arizona State will return home for their biggest non-conference homestand in program history. It starts with a matchup with No. 17 Michigan, as the Wolverines return the trip in a home-and-home series. The Sun Devils nearly knocked off No. 11 Michigan in the 2022 season opener, going toe-to-toe with a future NCAA Tournament team in a 11-9 loss. Michigan also made the 2023 NCAA Tournament with a 12-8 record. This is one of four U.S. Lacrosse Magazine preseason Top-20 teams on ASU's non-conference schedule.
Sunday, March 3 - TBD vs. #12 Florida (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)
Part two of a massive non-conference homestand is a showdown with No. 12 Florida to start the month of March. This is a rematch of last year when the Sun Devils travelled to Gainsville to take on No. 7 Florida. ASU Head Coach VanThof spent six years on the staff at Florida under Head Coach Amanda O'Leary, earning a NCAA Tournament bid in every season, culminating in two consecutive Elite Eight appearances. The 2023 Gators were a NCAA Tournament team once again. This is one of four U.S. Lacrosse Magazine preseason Top-20 teams on ASU's non-conference schedule.
Sunday, March 10 - 11 AM at Vanderbilt (Nashville, TN/Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Complex)
The Sun Devils return to the road for the second time when they take on Vanderbilt. This will be the second meeting between the two schools, with Arizona State hosting Vanderbilt during the 2019 season. The Commodores went 4-11 last season with all four of their wins coming at home.
Wednesday, March 13 - 11 AM vs. Liberty (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)
For the third time in program history, Arizona State will matchup with Liberty. The two sides met in each of ASU's first two seasons at the Division I level. This is the second contest between the two that will take place in Tempe. The Flames were 12-7 last season going 7-0 in the A-SUN before falling in the A-SUN Tournament Championship.
Sunday, March 17 - 12 PM at San Diego State (San Diego, CA/Aztec Lacrosse Stadium)*
The final Pac-12 Conference opener will also represent their first league battle with San Diego State. The Aztecs have been one of Arizona State's most common foes throughout the years and now join the Pac-12 for the 2024 season. The only meeting between the two sides takes place in San Diego for the second-straight season.
Saturday, March 23 - 12 PM vs. #16 USC (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)*
Arizona State's home conference opener is a big one, as preseason No. 16 USC comes to Tempe. The Trojans are one of five 2023 NCAA Tournament teams and preseason Top-20 teams on the Sun Devils' schedule. ASU will host USC one final time as members of the Pac-12. Arguably the biggest win in program history came at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium against a ranked Trojans team, when Arizona State moved on to the 2022 Pac-12 Tournament Championship with a dramatic 13-12 semifinal victory.
Saturday, March 30 - 1 PM at Stanford (Stanford, CA/Maloney Field at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium)*
Coach VanThof's team will make their first of four appearances on the Pac-12 Network when they take on Stanford. In their television debut, the Sun Devils will take on one of the powers of the Pac-12. The Cardinal were 8-2 in the Pac-12 last year and have won two of the five Pac-12 Regular Season and Tournament titles.
Tuesday, April 2 - 9 AM at Detroit Mercy (Detroit, MI/Titan Field)
To begin the month of April, Arizona State will make their second-ever trip to Michigan to take on Detroit Mercy. The first trip was back in 2020 and the contest took place at an indoor facility Ultimate Soccer Arenas. This matchup will be held at outdoor Titan Field, the regular home of Titans Women's Lacrosse. In the first meeting between the two sides, the Sun Devils set a program record for goals in a 24-6 road victory.
Saturday, April 6 - 12 PM vs. California (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)*
Arizona State returns to conference action and makes their second appearance on Pac-12 Network when they take on California. This is the only meeting between the two sides, a matchup that has been owned by the Sun Devils. ASU has won the last ten meetings with the Golden Bears. The 11 wins by the Maroon & Gold against Cal are the most against any program.
Friday, April 12 - 2 PM at Colorado (Boulder, CO/Kittredge Field)*
For the second consecutive game, the Arizona State game will be featured on Pac-12 Network when they take on Colorado. The lone matchup with the Buffaloes will take place in Boulder. Colorado is coming off an 11-8 season culminating in an appearance in the Pac-12 Tournament Championship.
Sunday, April 14 - 12 PM at #4 Denver (Denver, CO/Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium)
The highest ranked team in the preseason on the Arizona State schedule comes in the form of No. 4-Denver. Not only are they one of five 2023 NCAA Tournament teams on the ASU schedule, the Pioneers are coming off a historic season in which they made the Final Four of the NCAA Championships. This will be the Sun Devils' second trip to Denver for a contest with the Pioneers, previously taking on No. 19 Denver in 2019.
Saturday, April 20 - 12 PM at Oregon (Eugene, OR/Pape Field)*
In the final of four Pac-12 Network regular season games, Arizona State will head to Oregon for their lone matchup with the Ducks this season. ASU is 6-3 all-time against the Ducks and have played in Eugene four previous times. The Sun Devils have won six of the past seven meetings with the Ducks.
Saturday, April 27 - 12 PM vs. UC Davis (Tempe, AZ/Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium)*
Rounding out the regular season, Arizona State will host their final Pac-12 Conference regular season game ever when UC Davis makes the trip to Tempe. Not only will this represent the end of an era with the league, it is also a celebration of those who have made significant contributions to the program. The Sun Devils will honor a decorated Senior Class prior to the contest with the Aggies. The Maroon & Gold have never lost to UC Davis (3-0 all-time).
May 1-4 - Pac-12 Lacrosse Tournament (Los Angeles, CA/Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum)
The final Pac-12 Lacrosse Tournament will take place at historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with USC hosting the event. It is the first year with eight teams included in the bracket thanks to the addition of San Diego State and UC Davis. Two first round games will take place May 1, followed by a pair of semifinal bouts on May 2. The 2024 Pac-12 Lacrosse Tournament Championship is scheduled for May 4 at 12 PM. Arizona State looks to make another run to the championship game like they did back in 2022.
May 12-26 - NCAA Lacrosse Tournament (TBD)
2024 NCAA Tournament Selection Show will take place on May 7 when the 29-team bracket will be revealed. Teams will be sent to four different sites to play first and second round action starting May 12. Quarterfinal action is scheduled for May 18 and will determine the Final Four teams. The 2024 Women's Lacrosse Championships will be held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina on May 24 & 26, 2024.
