About Mountain America Stadium
Located on the campus of Arizona State University, Mountain America Stadium has been the home of the ASU Sun Devils for over 60 years. The stadium was constructed between two small mountains and was completed in time for the start of the 1958 season. It was named Sun Devil Stadium after the team and had a seating capacity of 30,000 when it opened on October 4, 1958. Since its opening, many upgrades have been completed to Mountain America Stadium. Beginning in 1976, the capacity was increased to over 57,000. The following year the capacity was increased to over 70,000 when the upper deck was completed. In 1987 the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals moved to Arizona and Mountain America Stadium and continued to play their home games there until moving to State Farm Stadium (then known as University of Phoenix Stadium) in 2006. A three-phase project was completed in 2018 and the current capacity is 53,599. The stadium is now called Mountain America Stadium after Mountain America Credit Union became the naming rights partner in 2023.
