First Road Test for Lacrosse at No. 11 Stony Brook

STONY BROOK– Arizona State lacrosse (3-0) heads off to Long Island for their first road trip of the season to face No. 11 Stony Brook (2-0) on Friday, February 23 at 9 a.m. MST. The game will be streamed live on FloSports, which is available for purchase, and live stats will be available here

This will be the second time in program history that the two teams have faced off. The previous meeting came on April 1, 2022 in Stony Brook, where the Seawolves won 16-4. 

Scouting the Opponent:
The Stony Brook Seawolves opened their season last weekend, where they faced Dartmouth and Bryant, securing two dominant wins to post a 2-0 record. The Seawolves checked in at No. 11 in the ILWCA polls this week. Stony Brook currently has the nation's longest home win streak of 36 at Lavalle Stadium. 

Last season, Stony Brook went 12-3 in the regular season and won the CAA Championship, but lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to No. 9 Loyola Maryland by a final score of 9-8.

In the Record Books:

  • Senior attacker Mina Scott is 6th all-time in goals with 55, and 7th all-time with 67 points. No other active player is in the top-10 for all time goals or assists.
  • With 22 saves this season, Junior goalkeeper Katie Vahle has increased her program-leading career save mark with 335 passing Berkeley Bonneau's 310.
  • With three wins in three games this season, Vahle is just two wins shy of tying Berkeley Bonneau's program-best 20 wins.

Team Notables:

  • ASU is taking on a ranked opponent for the first time since May 3, 2023 when the team faced No. 20 USC. The Sun Devils have not defeated a ranked opponent since May 5, 2022 in the 13-12 win over No. 16 USC.
  • The Sun Devils are 3-0 to start the season for the first time in program history.
  • In the first half, the Sun Devils have outscored their opponents 38-12 through the first three games.

Player Notables:

  • Zoe Mazur's 9.33 draw controls per game are the eighth-best mark in the NCAA and third best in the Pac-12
  • With her four scores against Pittsburgh, Shannon Urey leads ASU with 12 goals on the season.
  • Anna Thornton's 15 points (7G-5A) have her at 15th most in the NCAA and tied for first in the Pac-12.
