Lubbock, Texas – Two Sun Devil sprinters and one relay cemented themselves as program legends in the team's first trip to the Big 12 Indoor Championships, as Jayden Davis set a new Men's 400m best, Adriana Tatum toppled the program's long-standing Women's 200m record and the Women's distance medley relay charted a new team-high across two days at the Sports Performance Center.
On Day 2 at the Texas Tech Indoor facility, Davis took second in 45.06@, now the fastest time in Sun Devil Men's Indoor team history. Davis narrowly lost to Baylor's Nathaniel Ezekiel, who won in 44.85@. Not only a team record and big personal best, Davis' time is also the second-best in the country and the third-fastest time in the world this year. It unseated Justin Robinson's record of 45.30 set a season ago.
The night before, Adriana Tatum became the Sun Devils' all-time leading 200m sprinter at 22.76@, the second-best time posted in the preliminary round. It broke Charonda Williams' 2009 record of 22.89.
In the final races of day one, the Sun Devils' Women's 4x1400m distance medley relay of Evaline Chepkoech-Taylor Brown-Mia Chavez-Judy Chepkoech broke a nine-year school record (11:18.40), finishing at 11:08.04@ to place second overall. It gave the Sun Devils eight team points, tied for most put up by an event group alongside the Women's 600y.
Davis' effort in the 400m final on Saturday was the best individual showing by a Sun Devil, as 43 saw action across two days of competition in Lubbock. Along with a pair of relays that placed runner-up, the Sun Devils received big performances from Taiwo Kudoro in the Women's 600y final and Dayton Carlson in the Men's 800m final.
The Sun Devil Men closed the meet by clocking a 3:05.58@, second only behind Baylor. Davis led off the Sun Devils' 4x4 after breaking the 400m record hours earlier. The day prior, his 45.42@ in the 400m prelims was the second-fastest time in team history and the third-best in the country this season.
