TEMPE– Sun Devil Baseball starting pitcher Ben Jacobs has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week. His teammate Jack Martinez has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

Jacobs' outing on Friday night included perfection through 17 batters en route to the Sun Devils dominant win. The southpaw tossed 6.0 innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball. He struck out six batters and walked none while earning his first win of the season doing so.

Martinez held a no-hitter through 6.2 innings before an infield single ended the run, though he picked up the final out of the frame to complete a season-best 7.0 innings of work. Martinez struck out 10 - his second consecutive game doing so and became the first Sun Devil to record back-to-back outings of 10+ strikeouts since Alec Marsh (10 in each), May 10, 2019 at Nebraska and May 17, 2019 at Cal. His 35 strikeouts through four games are the most for a Sun Devil since Jon Switzer's 41 in 2001.

Martinez is currently tied for the Big 12 lead in strikeouts with 35. His 24.0 IP rank fourth in the conference, while his .186 opponent batting average stands as the 11th best.

Jacobs, Martinez and the rest of the Sun Devils will look to keep momentum rolling as Big 12 play opens up against TCU this week.
