Sun Devil Outlook
No. 9 Arizona State (26-2, 14-1 Big 12)
- Arizona State took care of business on the road, downing West Virginia and Cincinnati with both wins coming in a sweep. This gives ASU 17 sweeps on the season in addition to 14 wins in the Big 12. The 14 conference wins is tied for the most conference wins in a single season in team history.
- The Sun Devils have a chance to clinch their first conference title in program history this week. With wins in both matches, Arizona State could clinch at least a share of the 2024 Big 12 Championship in its first year in the conference. The only current league schools to win a Big 12 volleyball title, which began play in 1996, are Baylor (2019), Kansas (2016) and Kansas State (2003).
- ASU extended their winning streak to 14 in a row, which is now tied for the third-longest win streak in program history and the second double-digit win streak under Van Niel, matching the 14 in a row in 2023. The team also has 17 sweeps this year, the second most in a single season in team history. It is three away from tying the record of 20, which was set in 2023.
- The Sun Devil defense at the net has been stellar recently. ASU recorded double-digit blocks in both of last week's wins, which extended the streak of matches with blocks in double figures to five in a row. Graduate middle blockers Savannah Kjolhede and Claire Jeter have been key anchors in the block party. Kjolhede posted eight blocks over the two wins, where Jeter piled up 10 of her own. Additionally, Jeter has now totaled at least five blocks in her last five games, which is good for a career high streak.
- Sophomore Outside Hitter Jillian Neal had a very impressive week offensively, totaling 22 kills over both matches. Neal recorded a career high 14 kills in the win at West Virginia and added an additional eight in the win at Cincinnati. She also had double-digit digs in both wins, getting her first double-double against WVU.
Opponent Outlook
Iowa State (10-14, 4-9 Big 12)
- Iowa State split a pair of conference matchups with a home loss at Colorado and a road win at Texas Tech over the past week.
- The Cyclones posted a 20-10 record in 2023, with their season coming to an end via a first round exit against Hawaii in the NCAA tournament.
- ASU and Iowa State are gridlocked at 1-1 in the all-time series, with their first ever matchup coming in 2007. They last met in 2011, the Cyclones taking that one.
Colorado (12-14, 5-9 Big 12)
- Colorado faced Iowa State on the road last week, picking up a 3-1 victory in Ames.
- The Sun Devils took down the Buffs by way of a sweep on October 18 in Tempe.
- ASU and Colorado will renew an old Pac-12 rivalry with the all-time series currently sitting at 14-13 after Arizona State won back in October.
