Hockey Season Just Got Closer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Following an NCAA blanket waiver approved on Wednesday, August 21, the Arizona State ice hockey team and the Air Force Academy agreed to move the 2024-25 season opening game up a single day to Friday, Oct. 4. The season was previously set to begin on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Head hockey coach Greg Powers and Falcons bench boss Frank Serratore agreed to the new series terms hours after the NCAA approved the new first contest date. ASU's season-opening series at Air Force is now set for Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5. Both games will start at 6:05 p.m. AZT.
The NCAA waiver was filed by the Big Ten Conference in an effort to create consistency of series dates (Friday-Saturday) and improve the overall student-athlete experience. In previous seasons, all first start dates were set for a Saturday-Sunday series, creating an inconsistent routine for both fans and players.
After the two-game series at Air Force, ASU returns to Tempe for its home opener on Oct. 11-12 vs. Michigan.
