Men's Basketball Huddle vs UCF
TEMPE - Sun Devil Men's Basketball is back on the road for a two-game trip that starts with a matchup against Cincinnati on Saturday at 12 PM MST.
Arizona State (10-6, 1-4) will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they take on the Bearcats (11-5, 1-4) in their fourth road game of the season. The Maroon and Gold then continue their trip a few days later with a visit to West Virginia on Tuesday.
The Matchup
The longest road trip of the conference slate starts with a trip to preseason Top-25 member Cincinnati. It is the first meeting between the Sun Devils and Bearcats since 1997 and their only meeting in 2024-25. Arizona State holds a 2-1 advantage in the series, claiming the past two matchups. That includes an 87-79 road win at Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center in 1997. ASU also defeated Cincinnati at home in 1973.
How to Follow
Arizona State will appear on CBS Sports Network once again when they take on Cincinnati on Saturday at 12 PM MST. This is the first of two straight games on the network for the Sun Devils during this road trip. It is the 11th time the program will be featured on national television so far in 2024-25. John Sadak (play-by-play) and Avery Johnson (analyst) are on the call. Make sure to listen to Tim Healey and Kyle Dodd on ESPN 620 AM (KTAR).

NET Positive
The NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) ranking is used in determining NCAA Tournament selections. Arizona State is 60th in the current edition. Coach Hurley's team is 3-6 in Quad 1 & 2 games and are undefeated in Quad 3 & 4 matchups. Three of their losses are away from home to teams currently ranked in the NET Top-12 (#12 Gonzaga, #6 Florida, #8 Kansas). ASU has a favorable average opponent NET ranking of 7, an indication of a challenging schedule.
Road Tests
Arizona State has played in some of the toughest road environments in the nation, which has prepared them for games like Saturday. In their exhibition matchup with Duke, Head Coach Bobby Hurley and his squad experienced Cameron Indoor Stadium to start the year. Their third game of the season was at 'The Kennel', home of the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Their first Big 12 Conference game was in front of 16,000+ at the Marriott Center against BYU. Finally, ASU made their return to Allen Fieldhouse to take on Kansas. The three programs are a combined 156-17 (90.2%) over the past four years at home.
One of One
Freshman forward Jayden Quaintance has proven to be one of the nation's most unique and versatile athletes. He is currently the ONLY PLAYER IN THE NATION averaging at least 9.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks. He produces at that high of a level while playing 31.5 minutes per game.
Buying Stocks
Quaintance has combined for 69 'stocks' (49 blocks + 20 steals) so far this season. He is the only player in the nation to boast those numbers (45+ blocks and 20+ steals). The next closest Power 4 player is Wooden Award favorite Auburn senior forward Johni Broome, who has 43 blocks and 13 steals (56 stocks).
Block Party
Freshman Jayden Quaintance has recorded 49 blocks thus far in the 2024-2025 season after adding five more in the matchup with UCF. He has already surpassed Pac-12 career blocks leader Jordan Bachynski on the ASU freshman single-season blocks list. Quaintance is only six blocks shy of the season-season record by a freshman in program history and has done it in only 16 games. He has two or more blocks in 14 of 16 games this year, including seven 4+ block performances.

We Will Block You
Arizona State is second in the Big 12 and 19th nationally averaging 5.3 blocks per game. Freshman Jayden Quaintance is a big reason why, contributing a league-best 3.1. Basheer Jihad, Shawn Phillips Jr., and BJ Freeman each have seven or more blocks this season.
Hitting the Glass
Not only has Quaintance solidified his status as a premier shot blocker nationally, he has also been outstanding on the glass. He is on pace to become the program's all-time leader in rebounds per game by a freshman, a record previously held by Ike Diogu back in 2002-03. Quaintance now has 10+ rebounds in six games. He is second nationally among freshmen in rebounds per game and has the third most rebounds in the Big 12 by any player.

Last Time Out
Sun Devil Men's Basketball hosted UCF for the first-time ever at Desert Financial Arena. Arizona State (10-6, 1-4) fell to the Knights (12-4, 3-2) in a high-scoring battle. The Sun Devils mounted another valiant comeback and took the lead late in the game, but eventually dropped the contest after UCF's Keyshawn Hall scored 40 points.
Four Sun Devils finished in double digits in tonight's late matchup, with BJ Freeman letting it loose all over the court. He finished with a season-high 26 points, connecting on 5-of-6 from deep and 8-of-14 from the field. Jayden Quaintance was dominant all over the paint, finishing with a season-high 20 points. On top of that, he cleaned seven boards off the glass and kept the rim safe with five blocks. Alston Mason continued to take control of the offense, finishing with 15 points and dishing out five assists. Finally, Adam Miller finished with 10 points, connecting on 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Sansational Start
Due to injury, Arizona State was without the services of guard Joson Sanon against Colorado, Kansas, and UCF. When in the lineup, he has been in the conversation for best freshman in the country during ASU's strong start. He is averaging 12.8 points per game this season, which is the most among Big 12 freshman. Sanon is second in the Big 12 shooting 47.5% (29-of-61) from three-point range this season. Sanon is 26th nationally among freshman (15th Power 4 + Big East) in points per game.
Ba-Sheer Force
In his first two games, Basheer Jihad combined for five points on 1-of-10 shooting. Over his past 14 games, Jihad has accumulated 196 points (14.0 ppg) on 60-of-119 (50.4%) shooting. He is also 62-for-83 (74.7%) from the free throw line during that span. He is fourth in the Big 12 in free throws made (64).and fifth in free throw attempts (85).
Mr. Reliable
Alston Mason has been a steady presence in the lineup for Head Coach Bobby Hurley at point guard. Mason has led the team in minutes in 13 of the 16 games, including playing 37+ minutes in three straight games. He averages 34.7 minutes per game, which was second in the Big 12 behind only West Virginia's Javon Small coming into the game. Mason is also shooting a team-high 80.4% from the free-throw line, tied for the tenth-best mark in the Big 12.
Free'd Up
An underrated part of Arizona State's success has been the steady play of senior guard/forward BJ Freeman. He once again scored in double figures against UCF, leading the team with 26. Freeman has finished with 10+ points in 13 games this season, the most of any Sun Devil. It was his second 20-point game as a Sun Devil and 32nd in his career, previously doing it 30 times at UW Milwaukee over two seasons.
Double Doubles
Jayden Quaintance has four double-doubles this season. Quaintance is one of only five Big 12 players and one of only seven freshman nationally with four or more double doubles this year.

Hurley also earned his 150th career win when ASU beat Grand Canyon back in 2021.
About those Sun Devil Wins
Coach Hurley has notched 165 wins at Arizona State and has done it while scheduling aggressively and not being afraid to play on the road. He has won 104 games in Arizona, but also has won at least five games in California (16), Nevada (13), Oregon (six) and Washington (five). Four wins have taken place in Utah, three in New York, and two in Colorado, Nebraska, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Single wins have taken place in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Texas.
Constant Competition
Head Coach Bobby Hurley and his staff once again constructed an extremely challenging slate that saw Arizona State hosting winning programs and taking on strong competition away from home. The 11-game schedule featured seven contests away from home and four at Desert Financial Arena in addition to the exhibition matchup with Duke prior to the season on Oct. 27. ASU faced 2024 NCAA Tournament participants Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Saint Mary's, and Florida before Big 12 play even started.
Arizona State has played or will play five teams in the Top-10 of the latest AP Poll. They are one of only two non-SEC schools that can make that claim, joined by only North Carolina. In total, Arizona State currently has six AP Top-16 teams on their schedule.
