ASU to Host 2025 Ice Breaker Tournament
Alaska, Notre Dame, Quinnipiac Set to Participate
Arizona State University announced today, in conjunction with the Hockey Commissioners Association and College Hockey Inc., that it will serve as the host institution for the men's 2025 Ice Breaker Tournament.
Alaska, Notre Dame, and Quinnipiac will also compete in the event, scheduled for Oct. 10-11, 2025, at Mullett Arena in Tempe.
"The addition of Arizona State University men's hockey has been a tremendous success, and we hoped to one day have the Ice Breaker tournament in Tempe," said College Hockey Inc. Executive Director Sean Hogan. "Four of the top programs in the country competing in one of the best buildings in college hockey will be a great way to kick off the 2025-26 season," said College Hockey Inc. Executive Director Sean Hogan.
The Ice Breaker Tournament, which began in 1997, traditionally marks the beginning of the NCAA Division I men's hockey season. The event brings together four teams, typically from different conferences, and is administered by College Hockey Inc. on behalf of the Hockey Commissioners Association.
Next year's tournament will mark ASU's first-ever participation in the Ice Breaker.
"We're excited to host one of college hockey's most premier annual tournaments at our very own Mullett Arena in the heart of the NOVUS Innovation Corridor in 2025. The Ice Breaker Tournament is an excellent experience for ASU fans and students to enjoy elite competition on the ice while increasing the footprint of Arizona State hockey on a national scale," said Sun Devil athletics director Graham Rossini.
The Sun Devils, in their first season as members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), won 20-plus games in three of the last six seasons as an NCAA independent.
"This is a tremendous event, and a great tradition College Hockey Inc. has started every year. It's a privilege to host this tournament and to invite three elite programs in one weekend to Tempe is the icing on the cake. Hockey fans in the desert will see college hockey at the highest level," said ASU head coach Greg Powers.
